Marcus was born in East Berlin. Following his parents’ politically-motivated GDR escape in the 1980s (who had met studying Theology under Socialist rule), he grew up in West Berlin where he lives and works again today.

Alongside his artistic practice, Marcus works as a freelance designer and art director running his own Berlin design agency image.affairs. He has also been translating for contemporary art galleries, fairs, and publishers.

In early 2017 Marcus was invited to join the Royal British Society of Sculptors as a member.
